As the owner of Bettis, P.C., Portia Bettis oversees all aspects of her practice personally. With over 11 years of experience in the legal industry, Ms. Bettis’ passion for advocacy is rivaled only by her dedication to each and every client. A native of Beaumont, Texas, she attended the University of Texas at Austin, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy with a minor in Classical Civilizations in 2002.  In 2003 Ms. Bettis entered the University of Texas School of Law where she received her juris doctor in 2006.

While attending the University of Texas School of Law, Ms. Bettis received numerous honors and awards in trial advocacy. In 2005-2006 she represented the University of Texas at the American Bar Association’s Inaugural Arbitration Competition becoming the first National Arbitration Competition Champion along with her teammates. She also earned a coveted spot on the 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 National Trial Competition teams.  In addition, Ms. Bettis was the winner and Best Advocate of the 2005-2006 Baron and Budd Mock Trial Competition.; a finalist in the 2004-2005 Vial Hamilton Mock Trial Competition; a finalist in the 2005-2006 Inaugural UT Mediation Competition; and a  semi-finalist in the 2004-2005  Strasburger Price Mock Trial Competition. Ms. Bettis practiced as an associate attorney in the University of Texas Criminal Defense Clinic where she represented clients charged with misdemeanor crimes ranging from theft and assault to public intoxication and DUIs.

Ms. Bettis’ practice focus includes representation of clients in personal injury actions, as well as criminal defense in misdemeanor cases.  She has extensive experience in negotiating with insurance companies, as well as alternative dispute resolution.
